I received a letter from PGE informing me that for the past three years they had been misreading my neighbors and my meter, therefor billibg us for each others ussage. I feel that this letter I received from PGE dated 11-16-10 advising me of their error in reading my meter over the last three years, from 10-12-07 to 10-14-10, and charging me an additional $543.94 for what they had failed to charge me is totally inappropite. We moved into our house in Septrmber of 2007 and therefor had no prior utility bills on this property in which to compare my utility ussage. I had no way of knowing that they were making a mistake.
I don't understand how PGE, being such an established company, could make this kind of error. If this has happened to me how many others has it happened to, or is happening to right now with out their knowledge of. How am I to trust that my future bills will be correct?
I feel like PGE has violated my rights by showing me and my neighbor each others bills for energy used over this period of time. PGE has accepted fault in inappropriately reading our meters for three years but is unwilling to take responsibility for it. Further more I was unable to take economizing steps to reduce my bill because I had no knowledge of these greater charges. If I would have realized that I was ussing more electricity than my bill was showing in the course of these three years I would have taken steps to try to lower the usage.
PGE should accept some ownership here and reduce the charge accordingly. I have tried to propose a 50/50 split of the bill, interest free. PGE is unwilling to work with me on this. PGE is only willing to set up a payment plan. This is their mistake they should take ownership and reduce my bill. Any assistance from you in helping me work with PGE on this issue is greatly appreciated.
