I went to landvortho.com to get braces (sure smile treatment). Wasn't looking for perfection, but thought sure smile was a better form of treatment than just getting normal braces.
Once I started, they told me my front teeth are pushed out and that is not how they should be. If left like that they would fall in a few years. They need to be pushed back so they would be straight/upright and not at an angle. When pushed back I did have edge to edge teeth & so I would at least need to grow some bone on my upper jaw so my upper teeth would be infront of my lower teeth. Cost $8000 for wilkodon'tics.
I did not know any better and believed what they said and signed up for wilkodon'tics. The surgery was almost set. I was noticing that they were pushing my teeth to one side. All I asked was will my midline end up in the center and will I have an even/symmetrical smile. I did get a call to call to schedule an appointment. At this appointment they told me about Orthognathic surgery and said doing this will get you the best results. Asked more information on orthognathic surgery and mentioned my concerns about jaw being attached at center (preserving facial symmetry i.e. facial midline, dental midline, symmetric smile). landvorth.com guaranteed it and recommended surgery be done by Dr Trimble. I asked why Dr Trimble and they said they would guarantee only if it was done by Dr. Trimble.
I took a week to decide. Searched on the web and decided why not. If I'm fixing my teeth might aswell get it fixed right once and for all. So started treatment towards orthognathic surgery.
They extraced 4 teeth and pulled my teeth backwards. Got severe sleep apnea. Suffered for about 10 months of moderately severe sleep apnea. They could have pulled my back teeth a little forward, it would have reduced or maybe not caused sleep apnea. If it did not cause sleep apnea I might have got out of orthognathic surgery (because it costs $25,000). However by pulling my front teeth back, ensuring I get sleep apnea, they made sure that I would go through and do orthognathic surgery.
I have no choice but to go and do orthognathic surgery, which I agree to do. I am now told
i. I need bone graft
ii. there will be screws and plates left over in my mouth to hold my jaws for the rest of my life
iii there is chance of damaage to one of my nerves
All this was never mentioned at time of suggesting treatment. They over promised, guaranteed results and never mentioned any risks and any of the above. I wouldn't have done it if any of the above were mentioend.
Finally I do pay $25K aside from the $6.5K for orthodon'tics. My surgeon Dr. Trimble screws up my surgery. My jaws after being removed were attached wrongly. The upper jaw has a significant tilt and both jaws are not attached significantly to the right. Right now when I smile I can see the entire left side of my teeth but just the central incisors & canine tooth on my right side. They deny any wrong doing. Was mis-lead, mis-guided, given wrong advice, X-rays taken go missing, did not get my concerns answered properly, ask for X-rays and not given access to them on time and some X-rays taken were deleted. There is no desire from doctors to fix the problem.
I believe this orthodon'tist, gets patients to do orthognathic surgery even when not required. The orthodon'tist and maxilloficial surgeon work hand in glove together. The above is how they put the hook on patients to get them to do orthognathic surgery and pay lots of money for treatment (sometimes insurance covers orthognathic surgery).
In my case I not only want to mention how they reel in patients to do this surgery, but I want to show the poor outcome of surgery because of surgeon mistake, and them then resorting to mis-guiding patients & wrapping things up, even if it means mal-practice by the doctors.
I have pictures and X-rays that show the problem, however don't see any way of uploading them. I also have audio & video wherein orthodon'tist agrees I have my jaws fixed incorrectly but in a different video surgeon just lying and saying jaws are fixed correctly .....
