Direct TV Complaint

No Mercy for the Widower and Suddenly Unemployed - Satalite TV Service

- Memphis & Chattanooga, Tennessee
We became as customer of Direct TV at the insistence of my College graduating son so we could enjoy a variety of entertainment while he visited. My wife had passed away only 2 weeks before this time. He made the arrangements in his name but somehow got it changed to my name. So my thinking wasn't real clear having lost my dear life long friend. I was a director of operation for a local company in the Memphis area. Being left to raise a 13 year old boy, I was overwhelmed. Only 3 months later my employment was terminated. I searched diligently for employment without success. We decided to move back to eastern Tennessee where our family resided. In an effort to reduce our monthly expenses, I contacted Direct-TV in June of 2010. I explained my employment situation and they agreed to place my account on hold until November 2010. I explained that I wanted to send all the equipment back but was told not to do that.
We moved to eastern Tennessee in July, where we stayed with friends, again to conserve our resources as I looked for employment.
In November I saw that Direct TV again began charging by debit card for service. I contacted them and explained that I was staying with friends and that I HAD NO HOME to which they could attach the dish. And asked them to stop charging my account.
I contacted them repeatedly attempting to get the issue resolved. Finally in late May of 2011, I contacted them again and they agreed to stop charging me for service that I did not have. I asked them for a refund of the payments since November 2010 because I had asked them to stop the charges. I never heard from the representative after talking to him.
But I did return the equipment, which had been packed and stored when we moved from our home in Memphis.
Then I found that Direct TV had again charged my debit card for the 'settlement' charges and closed my account.
Long Story Short - Direct TV charged my debit card After I insisted they stop. Up until the final charge.
I think this is extremely inappropriate business practice and plan to report to the local and state agencies that control the company. You would think that a company would have some compassion on a person who is under emotional stress because of the loss of a spouse and then the loss of employment. It is shameful behavior. And Direct TV should pay for my losses to them.
