I am one of the many consumers complaining of the same issue that people from "my3cents" website complained about. We purchased a home warranty from NHP, I specifically asked the salesman if I could cancel at any time, he said yes ( I asked this because I was buying three years in advance). He sent me a contract were he repeated a parragraph that clearly states I can get out..." This contract may be cancelled by the contract holder at any time. In such cases, the provider of funds shall be entitled to a full refund of the paid contract."
When my heating unint went out this week, they refused service and when I asked to be let out of the contract, they said I could not, and referred back to the same contract, where under the same parragraph it stated I could. I had a lawyer friend look at it, and she says I can. They say legally I can't. I have no money or time to fight it. I am 8 months pregnant with a 4 year old and I am a stay at home mom where I can not afford to hire a lawyer. (I have no heat, so it's rrrrrrreally cold in my house right now.)
I am writing you in regards to my fear of this young company, who opened only two years ago, that they are selling multi-year contracts, because they know they are practicing fraudulently, and they plan to run for as long as they can before they are shut down. I am afraid they will do it again and again, since people are prepaying for several years in advance. I saw on the my3cents website, that some people are buying 5 year terms.
I would like to have them investigated and if my fears are correct, someone should go to jell for doing this. I think their employees are either family members or somehow getting a bonus for not providing service, as they are incredibly rude and act almost happy that they are denying you the coverage. It reminds me of the "Incredibles" cartoon (there was a similar story at the beginning of the movie). I forgot to mention the long hold times they put you through.
Sorry for rambling, but I am just very concerned for my self as well as the other innocent people out there who have it. Please take the time to ref. to the my3cents website where there are far more complaints of the exact same kind against this company - National Home Protection.
Thanks in advance,
A very concerned consumer.
