I needed a new stove because the one I had was leaking gas. I called the Phila Gas Works and they sent someone out right away. The serviceman immediately unplugged the stove and told me to never use it again. I did not have the money for a new stove so I decided to go to the scratch and dent place where they sold supposedly new appliances that had been scratched or dented and could not be sold at the regular price. Since I needed a new refrigerator also, I thought I may as well kill to birds with one shot.
I went to the scratch and dent Appliance Sales store that had been recommended to me by neighbors, family and friends. I went to the store on May 18, 2010 and purchased both the stove and the refrigerator both of which had minor scratches and simply needed to be cleaned up a little, so I thought.
The appliances were bought on May 18th and delivered on Friday, May 21, 2010. I really liked the both the appliances and the stove was working very well. The refrigerator seemed to work pretty well also, until about an hour later. I was working at my computer and I heard a startling noise like that of a washing machine that was over loaded and during the rinse cycle started that banging noise. I went to check the washing machine and realized the noise was coming from the refrigerator I had just bought. It was to late to call the company to tell them about the noise, so I called on Monday the 24 of May and was told and I quote "The repair man will call you when he is in your area. You must be home to answer the call because he has a blocked number and you cannot get return call service (*69). I asked when will he be in my area and was told "I don't know. He will call. I have since called back twice within the 30 day warranty and have not received a reply. Incidentally, my neice has bought a washing machine from the same place has had the same problem. Her washing machine only lasted for 2 weeks. That was bought in March or April and she hasn't had a repair man come to fix it yet. I don't know how many other people have had the same problem, but when I call for the repair man, the same man always tells me that the repair man is backed up. That tells me there are quite a few complaints about appliances that don't work correctly or have broken down.
This is a continuation of the previous story.
Isn't it funny that within one hour after I contacted the service department and explained that I had contacted you that the service man called and said he would be over within an hour. Well he did come as he said he would. Unfortunately for me I did not get any identification from him. He did inspect the refrigerator for about 2 minutes and promptly explained that the refrigerator was no good and could not be fixed and to call the store back. I asked him if he would sign a note explaining what the outcome of his inspection of the refrigerator was and he promptly said no while literally running out my front door. Just to cover my behind, I asked a neighbor who was outside at the time to note him, the date and what time of day it was While writing this I called the store back and they told me I had to contact John at 401 E Ontario St in Philadelphia and ask for John. It seems that this company is becoming more and more rifty,(slang for being a ripoff), by the hour. No phone number was given for this John person nor was there a last name. Seems something shakey is going on with this store. Perhaps its a cover for some illegal activity or is operating illegally itself. I know I won't be knocking on a stranger's door trying to get my money back. I will be seeking legal help.
