Progressive Movers Complaint

Moving Company holds your stuff for Ransom - Moving Company

- Paterson, NJ
I am a Sergeant First Class in the ARMY stationed at Ft Dix, NJ. We hired this moving company to move us to our new house. The move was a 30 minute drive from our apartment, moving to a house closer to base. First they were 2 hours late. Then it took 3 guys 4 hours to move a small 2 bedroom apartment because the movers were too busy being lazy, texting and talking on their phones. I had to sign a bunch of forms before they would even begin work. All of our belongings were already packed into boxes and everything we wanted wrapped was wrapped. They said that they would charge us extra for packing materials if they used them, which we did not request. They took it upon themselves to wrap dressers and other furniture without consulting us or telling us that we would be charged for it. Four hours later we finally got to our new house where the guy in charge hand wrote a bill for the total cost. He tacked on additional charges that were never explained to us before hand. They charged us for all of the packing materials that they used even though we NEVER authorized them to use anything. I called the main office and was basically told that I would have to pay all of the costs or else my belongings would be hauled to a storage facility and held with additional charges until I paid. The original cost of the move was supposed to be $350-$500 depending on how long they took. After they added all of their additional charges the bill went up to over $2,200! I was able to talk my way out of $300 of it but I had no choice but to pay the rest or watch all of our stuff be taken away. I did not know if I could call the police or what other choice I had. This is not an isolated incident. The following link is to a web page with numerous other complaints about the same company doing the same thing to other people throughout New Jersey. (http://www.123...movers.com/moving_service.asp?progressive_movers_paterson). It’s nothing short of criminal extortion. Something has to be done about this. I contacted the Better Business Bureau already. I still have not heard anything back from this company and the company’s own website is extremely suspicious since none of the links on their pages leads to anything. (http://www.progressivemovers. pro/) I just wish I would have seen these websites and the other complaints before going with this company.
