In 2006 I bought a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. In July 2010 I was driving down the interstate when I lost all power to the vehicle. I had to struggle to get the vehicle across three lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. I was almost hit by a tour bus in the process. I had the vehicle towed to the closest Toyota Dealership. They related the power inverter went out and the transmission may have gone out also. A new power inverter costs $9,000.00 a new transmission is $5,000.00 this is before labor costs. So, I have a vehicle I paid $35,000 new and which is now worthless as I'm looking at over $14,000.00 in repairs. My Toyota was only 4 years old and has 140,000 miles on it. Toyota said since I was over 100,000 miles it was out of warranty.
Looking on the internet I have come across more and more Toyota Highlander owners who have had the exact same problem. Driving a vehicle and losing all power to the vehicle is a dangerous issue. Somebody is going to get killed.
