I am writing to you hoping that you will contact us to warn people about a scam involving a water filtration system. I am retired from the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia. I became involved in a scam that occurred on July 10, 2009. I received a coupon for a free water test. The coupon stated that if I allowed a person to come and demonstrate their water filtration system; We would receive a free dinner at a restaurant of our choosing to be received 15 days after the demonstration. My husband and I had been discussing getting a water filtration system as we have well water. We decided to call and make an appointment. I called about a month later and made an appointment for the demonstration to be done on August 12, 2009. A nice young man by the name of Eugene Packet did the demonstration, and it appeared to be genuine. The deal consisted of getting a water filtration system for $6,995.00. But if we purchased the system that day we would receive a $1,500.00 rebate; five years of soap products; and a dinner certificate for $25.00. We were told that Susan James would come with the contract for us to sign. The contract would be with Mid-Atlantic Hydrology, Inc. located at 10408 Lake Ridge Parkway in Ashland, Va. 23005. Their number was 804-412-0510. The financing would be through FTL Finance located at 1215 Fern Ridge Parkway, Suite 216, St. Louis, MO. 63141.
