Merry Maids Complaint

A cleaning service that takes you to the cleaners

My 85 year old mother called Merry Maids for an estimate on cleaning her home because the woman who was currently cleaning for her was not going to be available any longer. A representative from their company (Nicole) set up an appointment to come and speak with my mother.

Nicole came to my mother's house and filled out a service agreement form that stated the first time fee would be $345.00 (a special discounted amount) and future fee amounts for continued service were also stated. My mother told Nicole she would think it over and get back with her. Nicole asked my mother to sign the service agreement, anyhow, to show her boss that she had indeed met with my mom.

When I arrive at my mothers and looked at the agreement, I had 2 major concerns. One, that Nicole asked my mom to sign a service agreement that she had not committed to; and two, that there was such an incredibly large first time fee.

I called Nicole at Merry Maids the next day to ask a few questions. I told Nicole that I didn't understand the large first time fee considering that my mother had current cleaning services and the house was in good shape. She stated that this was simply their policy. I told Nicole that their services would NOT be needed. She said OK.

On May 24th, Merry Maids showed up at my mother's house to clean. Their story is that I called and told them that my mother was in the hospital so I wanted to delay her services for a week. Now, an employee named Brandie tries to convince my mother that she specifically remembers talking to me and I stated that we wanted their services after my mother got out of the hospital. No such conversation ever took place.

Again, I called Merry Maids and I asked to speak to Brandie this time. I told her that my mom had just called me at work to tell me about her comments. I stated that I at no time called and had any such conversation with her. I assured her that no individual in our family made such a call. Now Brandie states that maybe a note was put in my mom's account by mistake. How do you have an account when you have not requested the service?? Is this large first time fee really their policy or this a means of taking advantage of the elderly??
