In Feb I was rear ended by a Mercury Insurance driver in Austin, Tx. They agreed it was his fault and requested that I take the truck to their "preferred shop". I did and the next day I got a call from the owner of the shop telling me he had just talked to Mercury and they were going to fix the truck using his estimate, bring it on in. Upon talking later to the Mercury agent, I told her I wanted the truck repaired at the Toyota dealership. Her next call to me informed me that the truck was now considered "totalled out". I had another estimate from Toyota dated 2 days earlier than the preferred shop for about 35% less. No matter said Mercury Insurance. Now the truck value had dropped and with the higher estimate, they were wanting to settle on a very low, low amount. It appears the truck was going to be fixed where there was extra cash figured into the higher estimate (I wonder who was going to get that)and then cancelled after it was realized it was not going to be repaired at their shop.
The truck still is not fixed and no offer has been accepted. There is a fraud case inquiry at the Texas Board Of Insurance.
