We have maintained our low mileage Mercedes Benz for 3 1/2 years through a personal local mechanic. It was a 50th birthday splurge and was turned over to us fresh from a complete mechanical update and a new top. We have always had a few sensor issues resulting in misc. lights on the dash. Our mechanic let us know he did not have the diagnostic tools necessary to address that problem. My husband and I took our car in to Mercedes of the Palm Beaches because the windshield wipers didn't work and the blinkers had blown a fuse. We asked that they address those issues and run a complete diagnostic on the car. We received an estimate for an astonding $6745 (not counting the $2000 estimate to fix a $50 switch that we declined) but decided this was a long term investment for us and we would dig deep (really deep) and do it. Two days after we were told the car would be ready no one had returned repeated requests for information. Finally, I was called and told it could be picked up. I drove it home only to discover the blinkers/wipers didn't work and the car pulled to the right. I also noticed some shredding on the inside of the canvas top. We took it back and they fixed the blinker/wipers. On the way home from the second try at the repair. My transmission idled very rough in traffic and the engine overheated (by gage and smell). That had never been a problem before. We have maintained this car through a private mechanic with no problems and now after they have had it on two separate occasions we have another issue that mysteriously slipped through the diagnostics on the first visit. Oh yeah and that sensor that we were worried about in the first place--still flashes randomly. We need help. They now want to charge us for a separate issue the we believe they created. $7200 later after asking them to find and fix anything that was wrong we now are looking at another major repair.
