On 12/18/07, my spouse and I had lunch at this particular restaurant around 1 or 1:30 in the afternoon, as we usually do very often.
For several months,at least 2 or 3 times per week, I have been observing the female waitresses, who are,by the way all oriental;providing service, customer service to only the table where there are men only.
If you are a female or a female who is having lunch with another male, you will get no service.
(Example: refills on drinks, waiter appracing table just to inquire if everything is alright; just the usual waiter service in a restaurant that you expect, or that is custom.)
I have observed over a period of time: all the waiters walking and running to only the tables who have just men at the tables, and refilling their drinks, and asking if they can do anything for them, etc., then just passing the females right on by and never addressing them for anything; along with the tables where the female and a male sat also; same treatment.
I pointed this behavior out to my spouse on today as we were eating lunch; we were there for at least an hour; my husband became so interested, that he stopped eating and started observing as well, and said; "it is so honey!"
I told my spouse that some of the ladies in whom I work with, we sometime go here for lunch, and I,ve never said anything, but has always just observed;due to the fact, I became curious and noticed, that none of the waiters ever approached me or our table, as well as observing that none of the waiters ever approached any other table that was occupied by females; which assurred me that there was nothing personal against me.
It seems to be their way;"the waiters," but apparently no one has noticed.
So on today; I could not take it anymore; I told my spouse; "This is not right, and I am sick of this," this is discrimination against females; black and white and all other race of women; if you are not a man, you get no service here."
I am contacting the consumer of affairs and I am also going to speak to the manager today about this as well.
So as my spouse and I, began to get up from the table; one of the waiter came over and put the "bill" on the table; I jerked it from her, because that assured me that the waiters knew we were there, when it came time to leave, for payment; however, they never noticed us to provide any type of service as we sat and ate for an hour. See that?
I said,"enough is enough!"
I approached the manager nicely, to inform him of my observation; the manager then became immediately offended, and said, "do you think I would risk my business by allowing something like to happen?" "We are a family owned business here!"
The manager then turned to my spouse and asked him, "do you feel the same way?" My spouse replied, "well I sat here an hour and my wife and I received no service at all, only until we got up from the table to leave, and your waitress brought over the bill; and then, I did observe very closely, your waitresses serving only the men who came in today as well; so yes, I did witness that today."
I told the manager, "Sir, let me tell you one thing; you should be glad that it is me, "a customer" whoo is informing you that this behaviour is noticed and not someone who is a government representative or channel 8 news or some sort; and furthur more, I just want you to know that I am very dissatisfied and I do want a discount.
After arguing with the manager for at least 5 minutes or so, because the manager states he watches his waitresses every move, but yet he has not observed this behaviour that I am informing him about.
The manager agrees to give me discount; I then replies; "on second thought, I wouldn,t want you to think that I am trying to get out of paying for our meals, so I will just pay 100% because even with the discount, I am still not satisfied; so I did pay 100% for our meals; but I told the manager that I am going to take this furthur.
My observation has been noticed always during the buffett hours of their business operation, which is a high peak time of business for Mei Mei restaurant.
What would be their rationale for such behavior?
Answer: I believe the men give tips, or are capable of tipping the waiters more so that the women customers; therfore, the waiters do not even bother with the women customers who enter this restaurant.
All the waiters are females and orientals as well.
This type behavior is not exceptable in the United States of America.
This is an insult to all women and discrimination of women, and these oriental women/business need to be addressed if not stopped.
In summary, I will not return ever again; but I would love to see this restaurant on the news for inquiry; then I guarantee you; many other women will say, "Hey, I,ve eaten there before, and I observed and experienced the same thing; then they will come forth; right now; a lot of people tolerate things because this world is so fast paste, that people do not have time to complain; but I am making time to complain and make this known.
So please do not overlook this one.
Sincerely,
