I took a prescription for a 90 day supply of Simvastatin 20 mg. to Pathmark Pharmacy in New Hyde Park, NY (516)352-1111, to be filled.
Pathmark informed me that GHI/Emblem health insurance would only approve a 30 day supply - I was out of medicine, it was the weekend, so I bought a 30 day supply for $3.46. I wondered why I was only approved for 30 days, when at the same time, I picked up a 90 day supply at the same pharmacy of the same medicine (Simvastatin 40 mg.)for my wife for $8.86 (on 8-8-2009)
On Monday, I made 6 calls to GHI, and all I could find out was:
1) No one knew why I was only approved for 30 days, while my wife was approved for 90 days, but they said 30 days is the maximum from a retail pharmacy, because they want to encourage members to use the GHI mail-order pharmacy (Medco.)
2)The price through GHI's Medco mail order pharmacy for Simvastatin 20 mg. is $150 !!!! My wife paid $8.86 at Pathmark. This is how they encourage members to use GHI's pharmacy?
