I went to Marina Dental Center. I spoke to a young lady named Angie to verify if they were in my network for dental service. I gave her my infomation for Cigna Dental. She called me an told me they were in my network. I made an appointment for me and my son for 1/23. On that appt day I was approached my two billing advisors Gabby and Carlos. Who showed me billing summaries that showed me "in network prices". I was advised by Gabby that I needed Periodon'tal Treatments and a Crown Completed. I was told that they contacted my insurance and Cigna fully covered my xrayys, exam and Perio Scalings. But it would cost me $1,120 dollars out of pocket for the Crown to the top right of my mouth. I told Gabby I did not have that kind of money. She suggested I open a line of credit. Gabby got me approved for $1,000 and gave to a discount for for extra $120. She re assured me because I agreed to open the line of credit I would not receive any additional billing from them. I was paid in full. on 2/1 I returned to get the perio scales completed and crown. A Dr. Lina Musleh applied my temporary crown to the top left of my mouth. I address this because I was told the crown was being applied to the top right of my mouth. On my new patient forms I complained of that being the area of discomfort. She got nervous and told me I all of a sudden a cracked tooth both sides of my upper mouth. I returned on 2/20 to have a Dr Ashley Alavizadeh apply my permanant crown. I addressed the pain of my right tooth and the quoted me a price of $1200 to get that repaired. I told them I couldn't afford that.
on 5/8 I received a "Super Bill" from them for $632. I immediately called my insurance to found out what happened. I was told by Jessica Brashner that Marina Dental billed Cigna for xrays, exam, crown and perio scaling. I told Cinga that the crown was paid for already and to reverse the payment because I had already paid a $1000 for that. Cigna said they can not go after out of network providers. I said Marina Dental had 3 representatives tell me they were in network. Cigna said they were not. Cigna denied the claim for the perio scaling because Marina Dental billed them $250 for each scaling and they maxed out my insurance. I told them Marina Dental provided me with invoices saying they only billed Cigna for $150 for each scaling. I was lied to and mis lead by everyone at Marina Dental.
On 5/15 I went to Marina Dental to discuss this bill and to submit a written request for my x rays and records. I paid $20 dollars. Amy the office manager refused to dismiss the bill as their mistake. I was told I would get my records with in 7-10 business days. I was told by and attourney, the California Dental Board, and the California Dental Association they had 15 days to give me my records. On 6/4 Gabby and Amy told me that they were not giving me anything until I pay the bill I am disputing. I told them the the Dental Board said it is against the law for them to with hold my records. Marina Dental they said they did not care who I reported them to. "Do what I gotta Do". I informed them that I had already filed a complaint with the Better Busines Bureau. Gabby told me "So What"..It is against the law for them to hold my medical records Hostage. I have a Statement from a nother consumering swearing to the fact that they billed her insurance for work they never did. on 1/23 they was another customer yelling at the office manager because they refused to give him his x rays. It is not right for Marina Dental to continue to peform unethical business practices. They feel they are above the law and their are no consequences to their actions.

Posted by sheilaehemann on 11/03/2008 I also had copies of my xrays withheld. I went to Marina Dental Center a week and a 1/2 ago (on a Thursday) because I had a lost filling on the lower left side of my mouth. I came to get it filled which is what I told Carlos on the phone, the gentleman who scheduled my appointment. I waited for an hour just to sit in the chair. It took another 15 minutes for a technician to show up at my chair and take my xrays. He proceeded to watch the TV that is attached to my chair for 5 minutes. I asked him if this would take much longer, and he then left to process my xrays. By the time the actual dentist came in to go over my xrays, I had been there for an hour and a half. He told me that he couldn't fill or temporarily fill the problem area because I have a bridge that wasn't sealed properly and there were cavities forming underneath it. (And a bridge on the right side as well with the same issues, according to him). As I sat in the chair, he named one thing after the next that I needed done on my teeth. Granted I'm no dental expert, but I had been to my family dentist back home only one year earlier and after cleaning up some past cavities, pulling my wisdom teeth and doing one root canal on my upper left side, the extent of my remaining dental problems as I left to move to California were: 1 small forming cavity
Posted by ajsiegel01 on 12/01/2010 Dr. Michael Homayun is negligent/incompetent and unethical. He did an implant, Endosseous in bone and custom post for $2650.00, stating that because I bring in so much business he was giving me a break in price (he originally quoted me $3400.00). I asked him if it would be still the same quality of materials and he said yes! He did not admit that he was going to use cheap/inadequate quality materials and not build the bone graph up to the standard of care required for the implant to be successful. While waiting for the implant to set (takes 4 months or so), I moved out of state. My doctor in Connecticut took x-rays of the implant and was concerned that the implant was not long enough and the bone graph not done enough (not enough bone was built up in the area). When it came time to do the implant crown, my Connecticut doctor had a difficult time finding the right hardware materials to do the implant crown because Dr. Homayun used very unusual implant materials. My doctor did get the proper materials for the implant crown and the day he was putting in the implant crown hardware the implant hardware Dr. Homayun put it came out. My doctor showed the hardware Dr. Homayun used to some of his colleagues who all agreed that the materials Dr. Homayun used were inproper. I contacted Dr. Homayun and he said he would give me a refund, less materials, which I agreed to. Dr. Homayun asked that my Connecticut doctor send him the x-rays and report of what happened, which I he did. Since then, Dr. Homayun has not replied to my emails, nor returned my calls. He is not a man of his word, he performs substandard dentistry work and ripped me off. DO NOT TRUST THAT DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND DR. HOMAYUN. I HAVE READ AWFUL THINGS ABOUT THAT OFFICE SINCE MY EXPERIENCE. WHEN IT CAME DOWN TO IT, DR. HOMAYUN DID NTO WANT TO REFUND ME.
