Martins Foods Stores Complaint

Man Sues Martins Foods For Discrimination - Denial of WIC Foods for infant son

- Park Street in Cumberland, Maryland
My wife and infant son and I, went to Martins Foood
store at 8:15 pm on January 18, 2011 to purchase baby
food using our WIC Vouchers. We were told we would not be
able to get the food, because they did not put a WIC label
on the foods shelves, even though the shelves were well
stcked and the WIC vouchers and checks authorized us to get
the food. I am black, my wife is white, and our son is bi-
racial. A talk with the store supervisor was unsuccessful
He was beliggerent and said he didn't care who we told. I
asked to speak to the manager, but was refused. He did call
the manager on the phone. The result was the same. I feel
we were discriminated against, because I am black. I will
file a multi-million dollar discrimination suit against
Martins because the WIC program is federally funded and our
rights were violated. While I don't currently have an
attorney, if one is available, we would appreciate it.
