Martins Food Market Complaint

Man Files 3million dollar discrimination lawsuit against Martins Food Market

- Cumberland, Maryland
On January 18, 2011, my wife and infant son went to
Martins Food Market to purchase baby food by using a
valid WIC Voucher. Wic vouchers are federally funded
and we were denied access to these foods, because a
Martin supervisor told us, that the store had not added
their own WIC tags to the shelves where the baby food
was located. Even though we had picked the food out
and the items matched the store brochure and our brochure,
we were not allowed to get the items. and, the supervisor
told us it was WIC's problem and not his. I believe we were
discriminated against because I am African American, my
wife is White and we have an interracial son. There are no
rules governing a store tag for WIC items, as long as the
items match the brochures and vochers issued via the WIC
program. A 3 million dollar lawsuit has already been filed
in the U.S. federal court in Baltimore, Maryland.
