On July 17th my husband and I bought a new vehicle from Malmstrom Suzuki-Isuzi, trading in a beautiful 2005 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck. We sign a contact in good faith and took out a new auto loan. In early August we got a late payment notice from North Fork Bank on the Silverado loan. Malmstrom had evidently never paid off the old loan. Phone calls to Malmstrom were not answered, and when my husband went down to the dealership he found them locked up and seized. I immediately made a call to American Suzuki Motor Corp.'s Consumer Help Line in Brea, CA. The young man suggested I go a nd see if there was a contact phone number on the seizure notice. When we went down there to look for it, we found the dealership open for business. The manager who had sold us our new car said that it was a misunderstanding and had been cleared up. He said he would talk to his financial manager about our old car payment being late and would get back to us.
Days went by and he never called. I called and reached the financial manager, Diane, and Asked her about the pay-off. She apologized, saying she had put a tracer on the check that was cut in July, but it would take time. More days went by. Attempts to get an answer went nowhere. Suzuki customer service called me back and told me that Malmstrom was no longer affiliated with Suzuki Motor Corp., and that I would have to deal with this myself. At the time of our new car purchase, Malmstrom was still affiliated with Suzuki Motor Corp.
I called North Fork Bank to tell them what was happening, and was told by them that this was my problem and I was still responsible for the loan. I should get a lawyer. My husband is disabled and my finances are limited, I work full time and cannot afford to take time off work. It is difficult to deal with an issue like this at work during the daytime, and at night everything is closed. My stress and frustration level is peaking. I have written to Suzuki Motor Corporation to let them know what I am going through. The President, Vice Presidents and their Assistants (six letters in all) will hear this whole horror tale.
I have a call in to the District Attorney's Office and I wrote to "Seven On Your Side." I don't know what to do next.
