Florida Dept. Of Business And Regulations Complaint

Are Felons Given A License To Build Or Steal - Business Licenses

- TALLAHASSEE
The dbpr is so concerned with unlicensed/illegal activity that there is a hotline and now a task force being formed and even seminars by the state attorney's office to warn people about the dangers of these unlicensed contractors. What about licensed contractors are they not aware how bad they can be!! Why aren't we warned about them??

I have contacted every agency in the state of florida to report the fraud and predatory building and foreclose scams of the licensed contractors. All agencies refer me back to this one. When calling this agency they are only concerned if their license is up to date. That is right they surely won't put up with a contractor sliding by without paying his renewal fees. Because, then the state of florida would be the one being cheated and that is not allowed.

Since the state refuses to crack down of predatory building practices, please inform anyone you know that is building or remodeling that they absolutely must do a free background check with their local courthouse at the very least to see if you are hiring a criminal disguised as a contractor. The florida building industry is full of felons!!

Because I trusted the state of florida I didn't do a background check. I ended up hiring a contractor with an extensive criminal history including felony convictions of theft and violence. Then you guessed it he then uses those same skills in his business and against me. The state is addressing the issue of violence but his scheme to steal is left up to me to fight in court.

Employing a trick or scheme----------against florida law
misrepresenting schemes--------------against florida law
construction fraud-------------------against florida law
manipulating a contract--------------against florida law
filing a fraudulent lien-------------against florida law
misapplication of funds--------------against florida law

I have documented proof of all the above but since this contractor has found a lawyer willing to advance his cause they have managed to manipulate the legal system and come after people with a flawless credit and payment history and no criminal history whatsoever!! What do you make of that???

I didn't know anyone could obtain a free back ground check at their county courthouse. If they say no remind them of "sunshine laws" freedom of information. It the best thing that you can do to protect your self.

I made the mistake of thinking that the business license meant something at least that they had been checked out by the state of florida. But that is not the case. It gives people a false sense of security seeing an official licenses. People don't do a background check as they trust that the state of florida wouldn't give a license to someone who could pose such a risk to the public.
I have been left devastated and my savings gone!!

I hope that by sharing this experience I will have saved someone from their dream home turning into an absolute
nightmare.

A news story aired 22 July reported that over 10,000 mortgage officers in the STATE OF FLORIDA have criminal records including financial fraud and even bank robbery. The state regulatory agencies are dropping the ball when it comes to background checks. The housing industry is full of criminals. Contractors with extensive criminal histories are FLEECING FLORIDIANS every day and the authorities look the other way. Reform is desperately needed in the STATE OF FLORIDA!!
