I am a KUA-Customer since 1996.
I was never late - even got my initial deposit refunded more than 10 years ago because of proper payments.
Since then KUA has been a reliable partner for utilities and well aware of their public responsibility.
But strange things started in January 2011. The invoice arrived extreme late way after due date. Let's assume the winter storms caused the delay at the postal service.
Normally there is a surcharge for beeing late - not this time! Immediate disconnection without any prior notice before the bill arrived!
In this case KUA is responsible for all damages caused by that! No reaction.
Now for no reason KUA wrote on March 30, 2011 that they request an immediate deposit or they discontinue the service. This is clear blackmailing.
As they are the only supplier in my community they are trying to misuse their monopoly!
If there was a real market with competition (like Cable TV service) KUA would loose a majority of customers immediately by this strange customer service attitude.
On top - it looks like they lost the ability to compute: in the letter they demand a deposit of twice the average amount per month - in my case $134.22 - which computes on my calculator to $270 gross.
KUA computes a 'Deposit requirement'of 2 x $134.22 = $440 !?
.... which amplifies the impression of being blackmailed.
Over all it gives me the idea that KUA has severe finacial problems and is starting to rip off their own customers - which cannot escape.......nice plan. KUA's revenue of 2010 must have been terrible.
As I am not the only compliant this behavior needs to become public and investigated ! What happens to the deposits if KUA really gets broke ? Are there any controlling and/or regulating authorities which should be informed or requested to take action ?
I do not assume that utility companies are allowed to use their monopoly for their own benefits.
