On February 4, 2008, I contacted Katz Furniture to purchase Young American Furniture by Stanley. The sales person whom I am dealing with is Abie. I ordered a twin panel bed, 7 drawer dresser and a mirror. He told me that it would be 8 to 12 weeks. I gave him a credit card for the deposit. He said that I would receive my contract and receipt in the mail in a few days. I did.
Around week 10, I contacted Abie at Katz Furniture store and he told me that it was being packed but will be a few weeks to ship due to the rising fuel prices. He said that Stanley which is located in NC will ship a full truck to this location.
Week 12 - I called Abie again and he said the same thing. That is was ready to ship, just waiting word on Stanley. I explained to him that I will be on vacation the following week and that he would need to leave a message for me.
Week 14 - I did not hear from Katz Furniture when I was on vacation so I contacted them to find out a status. I spoke with a woman who was a temporary employee. She told me that Abie was out and that she will leave a message for him. I explained my story and asked her to forward this on to a manager. After a few hours I did not hear from a manager so I called back. Dave came on the phone and started telling me that Stanley has been closing plants and that they are not producing the same amount of furniture. He really painted their financial situation in a bad way. I thought that was wrong. He said he would make a call and get back to me.
When he called me back he told me that they didn't have the dresser and I would have to wait till May 25.
I explained to him that Abie told me in week 10 and 12 that my furniture was being packed. He did not have an answer for me.
On 5/7/08 I called Stanley and spoke to Brenda. She told me that Stanley did not receive my order till 2/21/08. That was 2 weeks after I ordered my furniture. She also told me that the 8 - 12 weeks is not because of them. If stock is available and the store sends a release it could be shipped within 2 weeks. She also said that the furniture has been available.
I called Katz and spoke to Dave and asked him why it was sent 2 weeks after I ordered. Why did I have to wait when the furniture was available for me in Feb. He said that this is how the business works. I have to wait my turn.
On 5/21 I called Stanley and spoke to Trish. She told me that the furniture was finally release by Katz (week 16) and that is should probably be shipped on Friday and by in NY the following week.
Week 17, 5/27 I called Abie for a status update. He left me a message that Stanly is again packing my furniture and that it should go out from their facility next week. WHAT!!!!!!
5/27 I called Stanley again. Spoke to Trish. She did not know why is was not sent last week, but she told me that per Dixie in her warehouse it is being loaded on the truck and going out the next morning. She told me that is should reach Ny by Monday.
I also left a message for Abie and telling him what I have learned from Stanley. I also asked why he is always telling me a different answer. He has yet to call me back.
I also spoke to the customer service person at Katz when I did not hear from Abie and she told me that it probably won't reach NY for 10 days.
When I asked Katz Furniture what they will do for me... refund etc, they said nothing. This company is very dishonest. I haven't received a straight answer yet from them. It will probably be 20 weeks before I receive a twin bed and dresser.
