At the beginning of 2010 I purchased a used 2002 Volkswagen Passat from this auto lot. I was leary about purchasing a used vehicle without a warranty but was in a position that I really needed a car. I expressed my concern to the salesperson who put my mind at ease by stating any engine/transmission problems would be taken care of by them in the 1st 30 days. I first had to have the heater fixed which took 3 days. The following week the engine was making a squealing noise so after many phone calls they said they would take a look at it. It was a quick fix and I was back on the road. About a week later the engine light came on and the car was yelling at me to stop, followed by smoke coming from the engine. I had to pull over and pay to have the car towed back to the lot. They kept the car for a week this time stating that a radiator hose had to be replaced and the owner tried to charge me. After I got the car back on my 1st available day off I took the car to a trusted auto mechanic who informed me that the car had been in a major front end wreck and needed thousands of dollars in repairs including the brakes and engine both leaking fluid. He also informed me that there was duct tape holding one of the front headlights in place. When I confronted the dealer I was given the run around, they basically said there was nothing they could do and the finance company said the same. I have contacted lawyers to no avail all stating that there are no laws to protect the Georgia consumer unless the car is fairly new. There are a multitude of complaints online form several consumers who have had to deal with these same kind of unethical practices including selling cars that have been in major wrecks, floods etc and sold at kelly blue book prices or even inflated prices. I can't believe that in this day and age that these people are not being held accountable when any other company is held responsible for the product they sell. These are hard times and people are getting caught in binds but still trying to make it through with their heads held high. Why should these car lots be allowed to take advantage of that????
