I am a 19yr ol girl, 10/23/08 I went to jakes auto sales, and put a $520 deposit on a 87 maxima, the only car they said I could buy. I left the lot and called back and said it wasn't running right, he said it was the way I was driving it, I called back again, and said I wanted to return it, I didn't feel safe in it, the owner joel larson said I could return it the next day and get a refund of my deposit, so 10/24/08 within 24 hours I returned the car he accepted it back, but refused to refund my deposit, on the basis of he had sent in for the tax and licensing, which didn't make sense when he knew I was returning it, he refused to show any proof of this, he also refused to void the contract stating I had his "word" he wouldn't pursue legal action against me because he had possession of the car. My mother went to the lot 10/25/08 and spoke to the salesman, who informed her he wouldn't void the contract because I would have the right to the refund of my deposit upon the return of the car. He also agreed the it was unlikely that the owner sent in for the licensing, knowing she was returning the car the next day. My month asked for something in writing on my behalf stating he wouldn't pursue legal action, she was told the owner would be there at 3pm, so at 3pm I went down to the lot again, he gave me a business card with a note on the back stating he wouldn't pursue legal action, but refused to void the contract, and still refused to refund my $500 that he gave me his "word" he would give it back. And he did not, my mother spent the day out front of his business with a large sign stating don't buy a car here, she plans on going out there every weekend to let other people know they take advantage of young girls shopping for cars alone, and doesn't keep his "word", has bad business practices and sells bad cars.
