Internal Revenue Service Complaint

Extrodinary Citizenship

My story is more about my older sister whom I admire more than anyone else I know. She is a model citizen, obeys all laws, works hard and has always lived her life with compassion and integrity. This last decade has been devastating for my family. My sister unselfishly and cheerfully has kept our family together and alive by her selfless devotion. Her devotion and loyalty has given us all a chance for life as she helped lift her twin sisters from a life of addiction and insanity. She became caretaker for my elderly mother and has loved and supported her through a suicidal stage, and now continues to provide the best possible care that a little 84-year-old Mom could want or need. My sister lifted her nephew from a life of drugs, insanity and crime and away from his mentally ill mother. She lovingly took this young man under her wing and helped to guide him into adulthood as a law-abiding citizen and productive member of society. If anyone ever needed to know what a good citizen looks like, it is my sister. Through all the above events, she found herself in debt to the Internal Revenue Service. She is now making payments to the IRS for what looks like will be the rest of her life. It is not what she owes the IRS that is keeping her buried. It is the interest and penalties. Certainly, when a person has shown themselves to be the type of citizen America can point to and be proud of, America, every once in a while, can reward and honor this extraordinary example of what an American citizen looks like, with a random act of kindness. Simple forgiveness of just the interest and penalties, not the debt itself, would be a kindness never forgotten. A small way for America to show her citizens how she rewards and encourages this type of citizenship. These debts would not have occurred had my sister not been working and spending everything she had to take care of her family, debts, and taxes. Because of the way the interest and penalties accrue, she must feel trapped in a debt that will never go away. It makes credit card debt look pretty darn good. Is there any program or politician out there that can go to bat and help smooth the way to help this silent warrior? If for no other reason than to free her up so she can go out and do more good. She never complains. I am.
