A 77 year old woman on oxygen 24 hours a day responded to an Insurance Co., ad pertaining to long term care. She was approached by two salesmen who came to her home and convinced her to purchase a 10 year annuity policy for over $100,000 which took the funds from her account and placed it in a policy where she could not access the money for 10 years. At age 77 and ill with a condition which impairs her cognitive functions, this is certainly not in her bet interests. When the Insurance Co. was contacted with a request to cancel the transaction, they responded with a request for confirmation from her doctor. A doctor's letter confirming her compromised cognitive function was provided, and the company still refused to cancel the sale.
Here is an example of overzealous salesmen taking advantage of an impaired individual in order to make a commission.
