Hi,
Our car is a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. We have always taken care of this car with regular maintenance at our local service stations. When we purchased the car we were told that the car had a ten year or 100K mile warranty on the engine. That was a big sellling point for us. The fact is we were never todl that in order for the engine to be covered under the warranty that we would need to take our car to the Hyundai dealer for all maintenance. This is not in the manual either.
The car only had 70K miles on it when the bearings went inside the engine. Nothing to do with maintenance as we always did all the required oil changes and all other required maintenance. On the night the car broke down the car was hesitating and bucking and then the engine light and oil light came on at the same time. Then it started making loudn banging noices from the engine. We pulled over and call AAA to have the car towed to our mechanic. When he examine it the next day he told us the engine was gone as the bearings inside had worn out inside. The menchanic told us that when the bearing go all the lights come on and it makes that loud noise. Nothing to do with neglect or that there was no oil as the oil was full. He advised us to take to our dealer as the engine should be covered. We had it towed to the delear thinking the same thing since the car was under 10 years old and only had 70K miles on it. Afer the dealers mechanic looked at it we were told us since all the maintenance was not done with them they could not tell if the car was neglected. Even though we had paperwork for oil changes and repairs for the most of the 8 years we had the car. We asked for a corporate person to look into this but they told us they could do nothing for us. I am so upset with the Hyundai Corporation. We have bought 3 cars from them. This is how they treat their loyal customers. Disgusting. If there is anyone who can help us, please, we would appreciate it. My husband has been out of work for over a year and we are behind on our mortgage as it is. There is now way we can afford to buy another car. The Hyundai Corporation has made a lot of money from consumers like us in America and should stand behind their warranties
We are so frustrated at the big Scam behind their Great Warranties.
