Weekend at Howard Johnson - Over night stay

I checked into the Howard Johnson Inn in Harrisburg, PA with my wife, daughter and two of her friends. I had reserved TWO rooms at the Hotel and requested NON-smoking rooms. The
desk clerk did not speak or understand the English language. I was given the ONLY TWO smoking rooms in the HOTEL. Upon opening the doors the smell was overpowering! I went to the front desk and explained the situation that the rooms smelled of smoke, no RESPONSE! I went back to the room to turn on the air-conditioner to get the smell out of the room and the knob came off in my hand. There were no towels in rooms, they looked like they had not been vacuumed in days, the TV didn't work, the cable was hanging out of the back.

The next day I attempted to get another room, all the hotels were filled and the desk clerk, this time the individual spoke English, explained that the Hotel was filled and understood the problem. I even attempted to present a coupon for the HOTEL to reduce the rate to $69.95 from $113.00, it was refused. I was billed $478.92 for these rooms that were not worth $1.00 a night. Wyndham World Wide Group the owners of Howard Johnson Inns offered me $85 for my troubles!

It don't mind paying for staying there but I feel I was over charged some $240 for the 2 nights!

Is there anything you can do as the Hotel Owner refuses to discuss this manner, his name is Jay!
