House Eaten By Big Mice - Homeowners Insurance

- California - Canyon Country, CA
Our story began in April 2009. At first we heard scratching and biting under the floors of our mobilehome. Then spraying sounds hitting under the floors. There were several areas where the floor raised up, about 18 inches in diameter. Then those areas sunk down because the particle board had become wet. We now walk on plywood in those places. My husband inspected, and rats (or mice) had been chewing the plastic pipes. I called insurance claims. They said damage by rodents, or damage to the floors is not covered. Plumbing co. said it would cost about 3500.00 to replace the pipes. I called the health dept. about the rodents, they have now found their way into the house. One month after speaking to the insurance dept., a rattlesnake came into the yard looking for mice, and bit and killed my yellow lab. We are 64 and 60 years old, and feel the insurance should have covered this. What's interesting to me is that the homeowners' insurance was sold to me over the phone, and I never signed a contract. So when they say "did you read the contract" I say no, because I never received a contract from them. Thanks for reading.
