We purchased a home in Solana Beach at the end of November, and it was advertised as move-in ready. The house is anything but. The home inspection company, Buyer's Protection Group (BPG), sent a California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) certified inspector who did not tell us that the grade of the yard would allow water to enter the house. CREIA does not check on its home inspectors. This is from the San Diego CREIA President:
However, as indicated on the CREIA website CREIA “is unable to monitor Standards of Practice performance by individual inspectors because they usually involve findings of fact, outside expert opinions, and possible legal proceedings.”
We have wet walls and mold throughout the house. We didn't know anything about "grade" or "weep screeds," but the home inspection company did. We now have about $100,000 worth of repairs and we are paying mortgages on two homes. We talked to an attorney, but he said that BPG is a huge company that is willing to spend $200,000 to defend a $100,000 lawsuit. We can't afford to fight for what is right. Would you please help us? Filming the grade of the home and the damage it has caused inside would draw attention to how useless home inspections are. It gave us a false sense of security.
