On Dec.31,2010 I purchased a 96 Volvo from Americars. The car was advertised on Edmund's as coming with a 6 month warranty. When I went to see the car, it was old and in "rough" shape, but I needed an affordable vehicle and it was supposed to be guaranteed for 6 months. I purchased the car, and noticed it said "AS IS" in the paperwork (my mistake that I signed it), so I insisted on the 6 month warranty, and they told me it wasn't included with the purchase, but would cost an additional $308. I told them to forget it, and they decided we could pay half ($154) and they would pay the other half for the warranty.
They kept the car to fix some "minor" problems for a few days and gave us a vehicle to drive while they were getting the Volvo ready. Finally, the vehicle was ready and I took their loaner back and drove the Volvo home. Three days later, the car broke down and they had to come tow it into their shop. Granted, they again loaned a car to use while the Volvo was being repaired, but it has now been since January 22 and they still haven't completed the repairs. We bought this car Dec. 31 and as yet, have only had it in our possession for 3 days. We drove it about twice. We told the car lot owner we want either our repaired vehicle or our money refunded, but he keeps avoiding our calls and when we do get to speak to him, makes all kinds of excuses and says he doesn't want to refund the money because he put another engine in the car. We, however, aren't impressed that he put in another engine if the car still isn't running! Can you help us? We don't know where to turn from here.
