Harley-Davidson motorcycles Complaint

Ridiculous warranty

Purchased a new motorcycle from Liberty Harley-Davidson (Akron, Ohio) in 7/06. Ordered a detachable passenger backrest/luggage rack along with a riders gas operated adjustable riders backrest. soon learned that the $300 riders backrest could not be used with the original seat. Ordered an appropriate seat from the dealership and when it arrived, in August, had them install the riders back rest and the seat. The back rest has a 30 degree range of motion for comfort and also folds forward to allow rider to swing leg over seat.

Rode the bike until November then placed it in storage at the dealership. Upon picking up the bike in April of 2007 I noticed that the stitching at the seams in the seat , where folding the backrest forward in normal use placed a strain on them, were splitting away from the fabric.

Notified the dealership, who said they would file a warranty claim with Harley and let me know when a new seat come in.

After eight weeks of prodding them I've been told that Harley only warranties 'Over the counter' items for 90 days.

Be advised that you may want to think twice before spending nearly $300 for a new seat from Harley, which they evidently expect to last no more than three months in normal use and will refuse to replace even though the seat is clearly defective in construction and workmanship. The seat in its present condition will permit rain water to enter through the damaged area where the stuffing will become water logged and eventually rot.
