I am at home one afternoon when a truck pulls up with large company signs on the door that read GRILLMASTERS MEAT CO. I have seen and heard of this company before so I am not too alarmed, however I am curious about how they are able to solicit in a secure gated community.
The gentleman approaches and introduces himslef as Mr XXXXX Morris with GrillMasters Meat and immediately begins the sale pitch about the quality of the meat and the reputation of the company. I tell him sure, I can take a look and see what you have; he brings in a box containing several smaller boxes of steaks....NY Strip, Ribeyes, fillets etc. I believe, the asking price of $379.00 for the case is a little high and I am not interested...so he cuts the price in half for me his special customer....if I agree to buy a chicken or seafood package as well.
My wife and I decide to purchase the steak and seafood; I write the check for $360.00 and he informs me that he doesn't have the seafood on the truck, but he is in this neighborhood all the time and will bring it in a day or two...this should have been yet another warning sign. Mr. Morris further explained that he was able to sell in the community via the license he obtained in Fulshear....maybe I am too trusting as I didn't check the license.
Mr Morris drives off and a week or two go by with no word from him. I call and he informs me that due to the severe snow storms up North (Feb time frame) deliveries are backed up....so I wait yet another couple weeks and after phone tag back and forth we finally speak about 6 -8 weeks later.....he apologizes profusely and explains he is no longer with Grill Masters and has started his own company, and would be glad to provide me with steak or chicken, as he no longer sold seafood or provide a refund, so I opt for the refund as this story is getting old.
This brings us to present day May 2011, some four months later. I continued the calls over the last few months leaving message but receiving no calls. I finally decide to call GrillMasters in Houston to report the fraud. GrillMasters tell me they have no proof that I ordered a product and Mr Morris no longer works for them; they offered to provide his contact information and support me in any legal action in which I may decide to take against Mr. Morris. Grill Masters further added that due to Mr. Mossis's shady actions while employed with them caused them to terminate him.
I try again, to phone Mr. Morris however today his phone is no longer receiving incmoing calls at the request of the subscriber and my phone number is blocked for receiving text messages.
In the end I am usually much smarter when paying for products prior to receipt, but this also shows me that GrillMasters will not support any outstanding orders which are sold by their "Independent Contractors"......buyer beware.
Anyone dealing with Mr. Morris and his new meat selling business should be aware!
