GM Complaint

GM/Hummer Airbags Prematurely Deployed - Hummer H3 - Hummer H3

- Berkeley, CA
On the weekend of March 19th I went to Death Valley with my Hummer group (3 other Hummers, 7 of us total). On Saturday we were heading to another 4 wheel drive location on a gravel road. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang. My side airbags had deployed. I notified my Hummer group over the CB radio and we all pulled over. After taking a look at the deployment and situation we cut the airbags out we continued on with the weekend. After getting back home I took it in to the dealership (Concord Chevrolet). I let them know what happened and left it there. I currently have an extended warranty and let them know that I believed the airbags deployed incorrectly and that GM should pay for the repairs (~$5500). After about half a day the dealership called me and said that they determined that the bags deployed correctly on an impact. They claimed that they saw the impact point about 6 inches from the impact sensor which was yellow in color and that's what caused the deployment. They said that I would need to call my insurance and use them to pay for the fixes. I restated the fact that there was no accident and the airbags deployed on a gravel road and that I would call them back. At this point I called the Hummer customer service line. I had read a few cases online through a Hummer board that this has happened before to a couple of different people. They mentioned calling the GM service line and opening up a case. I called the line and gave them my story. I told them I also had a picture time line of my trip and pictures of the deployment just after it happened. They had a 3rd party person pull the codes and said they would get back to me with the findings. I heard back from them that they did the inspection and determined that they found no faults and they determined that the bags deployed properly upon detecting a 'rollover' event and that they will not pay for the repairs through the warranty. Of course I did not roll over or get anywhere close to that point. I believe that GM should be held responsible and pay for these repairs.

Thanks
