My 2002 Cadillac Escalade was purchased for the purpose of having unlimited security at any given moment. The security that I speak of is the On Star that myself and others like myself paid thousands of dollars for, including monthly fees for continued use.
A little more than a month ago, I received a letter from On Star, that as of December 31st, my service would be dropped. The reason was that because the FCC has mandated the system be upgraded from analog to digital.
I then made a call to On Star to question the reasoning for my service being cancelled, to be told that I would have to contact G.M. On Star, apparently being confronted with this question before, readily gave me the number for a complaint line to General Motors.
My call to the G.M. customer service rep, gave me the same or less than satisfactory help or assistance. I was told that my vehicle did not have and nor would it be possible to ungrade because the upgrade was not installed.
My question was, why were some '02' vehicles equipped with the upgrade, and the Escalade not? There was no answer given.
I know that the digital equipment was available at that time, and yet not install on certain vehicles. This is nothing short of an insult to all who purchased vehicles with on star capabilities, and a blantant attempt to force the purchase of a newer vehicle. This is nothing short of an insult to the thousands of G.M. employees and their familys that have been loyale custmers through the years. I believe that we deserve more than this from G.M and the On Star provider.
