General Electric Complaint

Fabricate your own part - Refrigerator

- shreveport
A letter I wrote to Ge after a phone call that I couldn't get any answers with...

Dear General Electric,

I ordered a part from your website for my refrigerator. It was a cut to order part as it is not manufactured any longer. By cut to order I assumed Ge would cut the part that I ordered. The part was a metal door piece-about 25 inches in length, 1 1/2 inch wide and 1/8 inch deep- at a price of 152.00. Reluctant to pay that price for a piece of metal just that long. I bought the part. When I received the part it was cut to a 29 1/8 spec. My door is a 25 1/2 spec. So I called the parts dept. They proceeded to tell me that I have to cut the part myself. I have diabetes and do not know how to go about fabricating this piece of metal, besides this particular piece of metal has specific holes cut out so it attaches to another part. Now please explain to me why the consumer must pay such a price for a part that they themselves must manufacture. Your consumer answering service could not explain that to me. If the part is cut to fit and comes cut longer than need be, then I should not have to cut it. I should be able to send it back and get it cut to the specs of the part I had ordered for my model number. This is just ridiculous that I, the consumer, must fabricate my own part. Please explain these practices your company is using.
Thank you
