My boyfriend has a 6 acre farm that used to be a dairy farm. When he bought it, the barn was being rented for milking and up and running. Alliant Energy had a "multiplier" on its meter because apparently the load on the meter could not keep up to the amount of electricity being used. He quit renting the barn and sold all the equipment about 5 years ago. the barn is completely empty now except for some cats and rabbits. The problem is that Alliant refuses to take the multiplier off the meter and he has to pay 40 times more than what is actually being used each month. He has contacted Alliant Energy numerous times and they keep telling him there is nothing they can do. To me this is theft, and he has all the bills to prove it. Just an example of what this 'multiplier' does on a bill is: 5 kilowatts used turns into 200 kilowatts that you have to pay for. Now is that fair? I don't think so. I think he should be compensated for all that energy he did not use and had to pay for and is still having to pay every month. How many other families are they doing this to?
