In September of 2010 I went to work for a company in Albany, Ga. The company is a general contracting firm by the name of Dukes Edwards & Dukes, Inc. The owner is Winfred Dukes. This man is an elected official in the 150th district. That being said it has no bearing on my request to you, with one exception. His political position should in my opinion be additional motivation to his moral and ethical obligation to do what is right. Mr. Dukes terminated my employment on May 23, 2011 when he learned that I was considering leaving his company. The reasons for this are many and all pertain to what I observed of Mr. Dukes' business practices during my tenure.
I have already contacted the Dept of Labor and Georgia Watch. (a consumer protection outfit) Both have referred me to the Dougherty Magistrate and suggested I file a small claims suit. The dilemma I face in doing so is that I have just accepted employment with another general contractor and the work will require Nationwide travel. For this reason I would not be present in my home here in S. Georgia to pursue small claims court.
Mr. Dukes owes me over $3000.00 in unpaid wages and expenses. I have accurate and concise documentation proving the same. For a man such as myself this is a lot of money and this has put my family in a very difficult situation. Since my tenure with his company began I have spoken with numerous people who have told me that I am just one in a lengthy list of people who have experienced this very thing at the hands of Winfred Dukes. Some of these people are former employees and some are family members of Mr. Dukes.
If you can put a spotlight on this injustice it would likely persuade Winfred to do what is right. I and my family would be very grateful for any assistance. I have also spoke with an attorney and while I'm told I have a strong case. However, I don't have the means to provide the required retainer.
