Fedders:: Learn quality control & customer service from Korean companies - Air conditioners

I had purchased a Fedders 1.5T Window A/C on April'07 in Gurgaon, India.
Within three months of its use, the a/c had a gas leakage. Upon complaining with their local office, they started negotiating as to how much I was willing to pay towards service charges, when the a/c was well within the warranty period.
Eventually by the time our a/c was repaired, winter had arrived. So the device lay unused for next 7+ months.
This April when we turned on the device, in less than a week of usage, the a/c once again spotted a gas leakage. We followed up with both local agent and Fedders local office, but they say it has passed the warranty period by over a week and that I will have to pay for gas refilling. Moreover, they are not willing to offer guarantee that it will not leak again.
Since each gas fill by them is about 20% of new a/c cost itself, refilling the gas without guarantee would be like throwing good money after bad.

I had decided to purchase Fedders A/C hoping that a US brand will be better than Korean brands. But alas, this Fedders product is a made in China product of such poor quality that I am regretting my decision. On top, at Fedders India office seems to be suffering from high attrition and every time we call, there is a new person incharge of customer care/ servicing, which does not help either.

Lastly, I have written to who's who at Fedders but no one seems to care. So much for the their tall claims on customer service.
