I sold a Banner Hemming Machine on Ebay via a Paypal transaction whereby the buyer apparently used a credit card to fund his purchase of $850. Despite the fact that the buyer has had a bad history of fraud, he initiated a UPS claim of damaged merchandise and somehow managed to ship the original box back to me two weeks after he received it. The UPS third party inspection denied the insurance claim and indicated the machine was sent back to me in its entirety. The box went out from my shop in AZ at 65lb, came back to me around 25lb. When I opened the box (the original box I used to ship the banner machine) is was filled with junk (Pieces and parts of an old broken satellite dish) I assumed it was either the result of an attempt to defraud UPS in some way. I did not know what to think. I kept it for about 6 weeks, discarded it, and, 80 some days later I get a notice from Paypal of a chargeback initiated by this buyer. I would have staked my life on the fact it would be denied, but Paypal says they don't get involved with "returned merchandise" and they will honor the chargeback, case closed, I owe them $870. I have 100% positive feedback rating on Ebay for over 12 years of doing business both buying and selling, and an excellent rating with Paypal. I have a sign shop that we own including the bldg on a major hwy and am as transparent as they come. Not so with the scammer who somehow pulled off this chargeback. Seems if UPS cannot help me, Ebay won't and Paypal won't. I would love to get this story out so people are aware of just how little help they can expect from big entities like Ebay and Paypal. A criminal act that these large companies just ignore. I still can't find out how the contents got switched or how UPS 3rd party inspection did not pick up on what was really in the box.
Thank you
