We hired this contractor referred to us by a good friend. He had done some work for us prior to the bathroom remodel. We gave him $1000 prior to starting the work and the rest of the money to be received upon project completion. We bought all the material needed right away. He would show up a maximum of 3 days a week between 1 to 3 hours at a time...We had to text him everyday and ask if he was coming to work... After 4 weeks & less of half of the bathroom done he asked for the remainder of the money. I told him the deal was to finish the project & then get paid. Following day he didn't show up again... I texted & asked him what happened. He answered me by saying he didn't have gas because I didn't give him the money so he had to work on another job he had just started. I said maybe we just just get someone else to finish the bathroom since it's been almost 5 weeks & nothing was being done. He said fine, he was gonna come the next day to pick up his tools (which he has not done yet). He then threatened me by saying he was going to put a lien on my house for the money I "owe" him. In the meantime I have been interviewing other contrators to finish the bathroom but nobody wants to touch it because his work is shotty and not up to code... Were gonna have to take down everything he did & start over. This is gonna costs us triple what we had budgeted.
