Dear readers, concerned housewives, and those concerned
about dirty dishes coming from dishwashers,
I would normally not expect an article such as I just read
to be found in "the weekly Standard" (January 31, 2011 issue), titled "Another Triumph for the Greens" by Jonathan V. Last. Jonathan offers almost six full pages of explanation on why your dishes are coming out of the dishwasher with the same crud on them as when they were placed in that magic piece of equipment. As you might expect from "the weekly Standard", it does involve the overly intelligent paid slaves of our government "in action".
However, Jonathan provides a very educational analysis of what caused this problem, namely the removal of over 94 percent of the Phosphorus previously in dishwasher detergents, by all major manufacturers apparently, and without notifying the good old consumer, news media, or otherwise. RESULT = Dishes don't get clean and your dishwasher gets clogged up with goop. You then go out and buy another dishwasher that won't work either.
