I had Direct TV from 2004-2009 then terminated the service, due to bundling of services with a different company. The terminated my services and said I was such a loyal customer, that they wanted me back. They sent mailing and phone calls stated to please come back. In approximately fall of 2010, I decided to go back, at which time the customer service representative stated "we will re-instate your service and sent out a technician. We ordered the same service we had previously had, and called it a day. In April of 2011, we again decided to terminate the service. at which time we were told an early termination fee would apply. They stated they had started this practice in 2007 and that if we looked at the back of our statement it is what we agreed to. I stated that that was not possible because we were not notified of this during installation.
I at that time told them that I dispute the charge and would be writing their company.
Well I didn't get that opportunity because they debited the card I had used to pay the bill, 10 days later for $323.87(the early termination fee) When I called and spoke with their customer svc rep, Anne, she stated "there's nothing I can do. I requested that they reverse the charges, because there is a period of time where consumers can dispute charges, she still stated she would not do it.
These practices are unfair and unethical. In these economic times, for companies to automatically debit your checking account with neither your knowledge or consent, has to be illegal. What about the customers who have never paid online, do they get the opportunity to dispute charges while others, like myself do not?
PLEASE... just search Direct TV disputes and see how many other customers, like myself, have been affected by this same practice.
