I have had service with Direct TV for several months. Recently I was given a HD DVR. I called Direct TV to purchase an access card for my owned equipment. They took the serial number and said yes, my equipment was owned by the client not Direct TV and transferred me to another department to purchase the card (The first call took approx 15 minutes) OK, I hold for a while then finally the tech comes on and says they have no note from the previous conversation and have to run the serial number again..... some minutes later the tech comes back on the phone and says the account with the HD DVR is in collections and he couldn't sell me an access card. I inform him of the the name of the person I obtained the HD DVR from and I now own it not the person in collections for past service (the person in collections owned the HD DVR outright- they paid $645 for it-too much but that's what the receipt said they paid)
Now I own HD DVR that is being held hostage to a previous owners service agreement. What a bunch of nonsense. Direct TV further states if I cancel early I will have to pay early termination fees even though Direct TV is denying me service....what a rackett.... I will cancel the day the contract is complete.
