Today I called Direct TV to cancel our service. I was told that we would have to pay an early cancellation fee. I told the representative that our service contract was up in September. She said we had a new contract that runs to Feb. of 2011 because we added a new receiver when the original one malfunctioned. She told me it is stated in the orignal contract that any service changed or added to the existing service extends the contract two more years. Is there any way to fight this? It's $20.00 a month until we reach the extended date which will be $320.00 all because we needed a replacement receiver in order to get good TV reception. I've read many complaints online against Direct TV. How can consumers fight this deceptive company?
