Direct TV Complaint

DIRECT TV can be direct when it comes to dishing their hidden costs - 24 month (non)agreement

- Seattle
Today I called to have my DIRECT TV cancelled as I am moving at the end of the month. I was told that I am under a 24 month agreement and by cancelling there will be about a $320 charge. I was totally knocked off balance by that one. I specifically went with Direct TV as there was no period of agreement given. My lease was for 6 months, so I would have gone with someone else, had that been explained. I said I didn't sign up for any agreement and was told that it was emailed and when the dish was installed there was an agreement on the back of the install form I was to sign. No one bothered to mention an agreement. I told "the rep" that I didn't sign an agreement and he told me that everyone is under a 2 year agreement. That is wrong..... Can they get away with this? He also told me the dish was mine as I had bought it. No one mentioned that either. I don't need a Direct TV dish and was NEVER told I was buying it. If I don't pay within 20 days they will take it out of my credit card. Who is an advocate for the consumer?? I could use your help. This is clearly fraud in my mind and I think that people should be aware of how they operate. You have to disclose this stuff up front, not hide it until it’s time to cash in. I am so shocked by this. What a shame... I would not have expected this from such a company these days.
