On 7/15/2006, we were passing through LV from California, on a long cross country trip. My Avalon was due for the 5,000 mile service so we dropped it off at Desert Toyota. This was for a simple oil change and tire rotation. We paid for the services and were on our way.
Several hundred miles later, the "Service auto" light came on. I called Desert Toyota and spoke to the service manager who talked me through the process of resetting it. It was many miles later that it occurred to me to look at the dip stick and sure enough the oil had not been changed. The oil was definitely atypically filthy for a Toyota. You get several thousand miles before the oil even starts to discolor appreciably in a Toyota engine.
Anyway, I never called Toyota on it and as I indicated, it may have been an oversight so this is just a buyer beware type warning. Now, I check the oil myself before leaving the premises of any dealer.
