DaimlerChrysler Financial Complaint

Beware of returning leased cars. You might get a bill a year later!

My husband purchased his Chrysler Sebring in 2004. He returned the car in 2006. This car was in near perfect condition minus a few scratches here and there. This car was never in an accident, we even returned the car below the mileage that we were allowed to use. My husband took his car to our local mechanic before returning it just to get an oil change, car wash. etc.

My husband had his heart set on leasing a SUV. So we drove the Sebring to our local Chrysler dealership. Although he still had almost a year left on his lease, they worked out a plan with us and he turned in his Sebring for a Grand Cherokee. The salesman did the walkthrough with us telling us, the car looks great, just a few scratches. We dropped off the Sebring a week later and drove off with the Grand Cherokee. A year later, yes A YEAR later, my husband gets a bill in the mail from Chrysler Financial stating that we owe $999 for damages to the car. We made numerous phone calls to find out that the there was supposed damage to the tires, the front and rear bumpers etc. Was this the same car we dropped off in near perfect condition? And may i remind you this over A YEAR LATER. I made several phone calls to the company. They told us that the damage "wasnt so bad" They woudl take off $200. Did they think that was a joke. After speaking with what I can only call incompetant people, I was told that a manager would call me back. That was one month ago, yesterday we recieved another bill stating that we still owe $999.52 to be exact! I explained to these people on numerous occasions that you can't send a bill a year later and expect ANYONE to pay this. Not ot mention, I am 6 months pregnant, I dont need this aggrivation in my life. I could undersatnd if we recieved thsi bill 2 months later and they want maybe $200 for the scratches. Oh did I metnion that my husband had an extended warranty on his car that covered that, but Chrysler doesnt have thsi information on file anymore since the company was bought out. I feel as if we are being backed into a corner and I refuse to pay this bill! Any help you can give us would be great. I am sure that other people are in this same circumstance and they just pay the bill to avoid dealing with the company. I for one dont think we should have to do this. I am a loyal chrysler customer, between my husband and I and other family members we have purchsed quite a few Chrysler brand vehicles. If this is how they treat their loyal customers I would hate to see how they would treat enemies!
