Regarding Custom Carpenty by Matt
South Pasadena, California
[They] had done work for a friend of a friend who was satisfied with [their] work. I hired him for a modest job. He became an immediate problem. He damaged property; he had an explosive temper; he was physically dangerous to people and property with a nail gun; he didn't get along with other contractors who complained about him; and all this happened in less than two days on the job! He was fired.
[They] submitted false billing and false documents. He insisted that I sign false documents to get my money back. I had a legal document drawn up to pacify his demands which omitted the false information. He backed out of several verbal commitments to settle the matter and ultimately refused to refund monies for work not completed.
Subsequent investigation indicated that he had a history in creating problems for other customers. A source reported that once in a while, things go badly on [their] jobs. "When it goes bad, it goes really bad," the source said.
After [they] were fired, another contractor came in and did the work [they were] hired to do. That contractor did a superior job using approximately 25% of the time and 25% of the labor that [they] had estimated.
I was unable to find record of [their] California license. I also later learned that his contract and deposit requirements did not adhere to standards put out by the California’s contractor's licensing board.
