Continental Express Or Expressmovingcomp Complaint

Moving Nightmare

- fremont & san jose, CA
When I called up this moving company, I thought I was getting a good deal based on the quote they emailed to me. I was dead wrong. When they finally started moving our stuff 18 1/2 hrs. later than what was originally scheduled, I was so desperate that I just want to get it over & done with. We were all packed up the day before, when the company kept delaying the schedule 'til the next day. It was a weekend and almost impossible to find another mover so I went along hoping for the best.

All I had was $900 in cash because the night before, one of the movers came to our house and gave us an estimate of 6-8 hours to move our stuff. I blindly signed the contract without any price quote in it because the driver said he will let us know the amount as soon as they finished packing and loading. I never saw the contract and bill again until after they were about to unload at our new home and demanded that I pay him before they can start unloading. The bill came up to $1750.56 with $637.79 charged for packing supplies. They charged us for the # of boxes they used for packing, instead of the per item fee he explained to us. I gave him what money I had for them to start unloading while my sister-in-law dashed to the bank on a Saturday to withdraw cash. Meantime, the driver kept telling me that they need to get paid.

Soon after he got paid, the driver came up to me again and asked for more money since they couldn't finish the job on time, or else they would "stop the job." There were four of them working for 11 hours, at snail pace, and still couldn't get the job done. I was horrified. I told him I gave him all the money I had. He then pointed to my sister-in-law who was still panting from running from the bank and said "She has money. She can pay us." I gasped "No! She doesn't!" He threatened to unload all of our stuff (mostly the heavy furniture are still in their truck)in the streets and leave them there for us to pick them up. He talked to the other movers in their own language I guess telling them to stop because he was waving both of his arms to them. I panicked thinking that it would be impossible for just me and my sister-in-law plus my little boy to retrieve our belongings from the street where their truck was parked (which is also far from our house 0. I ran upstairs, crying and feeling helpless while my sister-in-law called up the police.

The police officers came and were very nice. After talking to them and going over the contract which did not state that we had to pay more if they didn't finish the job in time,, the movers agreed to move all of our stuff inside our home albeit grudgingly. This time they move at an amazingly fast pace. They were done in a few minutes. Afterwards, we couldn't even enter our home because the heavy furniture barricaded all the doors. A lot of our stuff were broken, including the collectible porcelain centerpieces my brother brought back from Germany and which were very dear to me. I am still shaking from frustration and the feeling that I had been robbed at gunpoint by these supposedly "professional" movers.

When I called the same CS rep at their company the next day to relate my experience, the usually very friendly and nice rep who constantly assured me before of a problem-free move replied "Well, how do you expect to be treated? We provide a service and you pay for it." I told him I would never recommend their service to anyone, not even to my worst enemies. Right now, I am still working at bringing up this issue with the proper agencies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a simuliar experience with these people. They quoted me a 3 hour move at 85 per hour. Didn't show up, I had to call them, they arrived, took over 6 hours, didn't move all my stuff, that three hour quote turned int 11.5 and over 700 in box charges, they even were so nice to pack my garbage, two bags and charge me for boxes. The wardrobe boxes were supposed to be free, but they didn't bother using them. Three men, only one or two worked at a time.

Robbery, over 1700 and they never even bothered moving all my furniture.

The most unprofessional movers I have ever dealt with. I have written a request for a refund. I have to submit my claims for ALL the furniture which was all they bothered to move, they broke in some way or another.

Please, try someone else and always get written quote. I learned my lesson.

BTW you can report them to the BBB and there are two other agencies though they seem to elude me right now.

I had a very simular experience with this company.

My response to Ohad the General Manager:

I have received your reply to my filed complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I am writing in response to some discrepancies in the information you said I was provided. First off I never received a written quote from your company. I spoke to Adam on the phone and was told that a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment took approximately 3 hours to move and that it was normally $89 but I would be charged $85 per hour for three men. I know this to be fact because I was sure to ask the time before booking something I could not afford. I never received a email with my written confirmation, no booking, no general service terms, no rate per hour or what was included in the price and what was not included in the price.

In fact, I called to verify with your company on the Thursday before my move, and was told that I was confirmed for a Monday, March 17th move date and that someone would call me on Sunday, March 16th with the time of the move. I had left my mobile number to be contacted at. No one bothered to call. When Monday came, I called the office and was not found on the books. Not only that but I was told it was $90 a hour.

First, I would expect from a professional mover to know if items in a apartment would actually fit into the truck. They did not, I had to hire another mover to come and finish the job later that week. This alone shows a lack of professionalism. You stated that I was informed about how long the job would take by the driver. This never happened, he barely understood me when I was speaking to him. And when I asked him about pricing for the boxes he just pointed to the price sheet. I never once was told this job would take 11 hours.

Move Facts:

• The customer received confirmation email included all terms and conditions after booking the service.

This statement is incorrect, if you will note above, I was never contacted and I was never confirmed.

• The customer received “NOT TO EXCEED AMOUNT” of $3500.00 and signed for it before the movers start working.

This statement is true

I was scammed in May 2008 by ASAP Relocations Inc and Continental Express. These are the same gangsters roaming the streets of California.

Something needs to be done!! Continental Express. I called and got a quote for my move from an apartment to a duplex approx.5 miles. I was quoted 85 dollars for 3 hours. First they were 4 hours late. When they finally arrived there was very little left a few big items and a few boxes that were already packed. They wanted to charge for covering things like the tv's but when I made the arrangments I was told that was covered under the move. So we moved the tv's. as they were taking things downstairs I did not relalize the were put my suff on the front lawn on the side of the building not putting things on the truck. About an hour later I had went to my car which was parked on the side of the building and I saw all of my things on the lawn and on the side of the truck I asked them what they were doing and was told that they bring everything out then they load the truck, but there was no one outside looking out for my things so I had to sit out there to make sure no one picked up any of my possessions. They were moving very slow, until my son told the 3 of them that we were only paying for three hours so they might want to move a little faster and they helped unloading the truck.
Well I found out 2 days later that all of my food items of can goods, dry cereas, spices, flour, spagetti, macaroni, which were in 2 very large boxes that I packed myself and sealed was missing. Tried calling numerous times but they would not answer the phone, finally I found out where to submit a complaint. tried faxing the forms, but the fax would not go through for over a week it wasn't until a friend of mine told me the number I was calling was in Florida and my friend lives in Florida so he was able to get in touch with them. he faxed the complaint form to them. I have not heard from Continental since. I am on a fixed income and that missing food really hurt.
