Conn's Complaint

Conn's Really Means Con's - Sony HDTV

- Dallas
In October 2009 I purchased a new Sony HDTV model number KDL46V5100 from Conn's in Mesquite Texas. The total price of the TV was $2,348.89 including tax, delivery, and extended warranty thru 2013. A few months ago the TV started going bad on me. Conn's service techs have been to my house several times and replaced everything in this TV but the display screen. The last time the tech was here he told me thats what he was going to do was replace the screen. A few days after I got a call from Conn's telling me they were just going to give me a new TV and to go to the store and pick one out. After speaking with a salesman all day on what to get, he then looked in the computer and said oh wait, they said you can get this one KDL46EX400 which is the low end last years model that has been discontinued. they must have some left in their stock. This same exact TV is for sale at Walmart for $698. I bought this same model for my bedroom from Dell when they had it on sale back in October 2010 because it was a closeout special. Now after paying over $1200 to Conn's and still owing them over $1500 they want to give me a low end last years model thats discontinued for $698. I told them that I will not accept this because the one I bought from them was the top of the line on their floor at the time and I want at least something comparable because thats what my warranty states. They keep trying to give me Samsung and all other brands but I paid for Sony and I want Sony. Yes they cost more then all the others but thats what I paid for. I have completely hit a brick wall with them, they have the attitude of take it or leave it, end of story. I have researched all over the web and this TV was a big mistake by Sony and a lemon and they know it. The problems I had are the same ones everyone else had with this model and its well documented. I would have preferred to get this TV fixed because I loved it but they say it cannot be fixed. I tried to tell them not to pour money into it but they would not listen to me, so I had no choice but to go thru the motions to finally get them to give me another TV. Now after them spending all this money on fixing the TV they have to replace it and they don't want to make good on it. I have spent a lot of time talking to many people at Conn's and they all read the same thing to me from the warranty and always go back to that. They always say its not about the money, don't look at the money, its about the specs on the TV and we will match that. Well the technology has changed a lot since 2009 and thats not my fault. They have a lot of Sony TV's in their stores but they refuse to let me have one because the technology now is LED and I have LCD. Even an LED TV at todays prices would still be much less then what I owe them at this point. This is so not right of them to do this to people and I am on a fixed income right now. I have read the BBB website and I filed a complaint with them, but everything I read there says that the customers go disatisfied with the results. You can look them up for yourself. I don't want to be another one in that long list there on their website of unsatisfied customers but I have a feeling that I am going to be at this point. I am stuck with this $2400 paper weight that I still owe $1500 on. For that amount of money I can go to Walmart and buy 2 of the same TV's they are offering me and walk out and have one dead high end TV and 2 low end TV's. what would you do? Pay $1500 for a $699 TV after already giving them $1200?
