We must stop bad animal grooming practices! Classicuts Dog Grooming on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, California is mistreating animals and their owners and should be investigated! I have taken my dog in for grooming services about three times total because of the convenient location to where I live, but after this last time I will never go back and I have reported them to the SPCA and the better business bureau. They take in far too many animals for their small shop and they place the dogs in crates all day without access to water and without letting them out for bathroom breaks. They do not disinfect their tools between grooming and many of the dogs are shaking and upset inside.
Peter and Helga, the owners are also running a very clever scam against consumers. They do not post their prices or have a list of prices readily available to customers. They quote you a price for a grooming when you come into the shop to drop your dog off, but then when you come to pick your dog up they take your credit card and claim various reasons why they need to up-charge you. Some of the reasons they give for up-charge are false and ridiculous: They claim even on short haired dogs that do not get mats in their short hair that they had mats and must up-charge you. They claim that well-behaved dogs were hard to manage and therefore they must up-charge.
If you dispute their charges or let them know that was not the quoted price they start yelling at you and berating you. This unfair treatment of pets and their owners must stop! I think this is happening to many people in the community of Santa Monica and their dogs and I hope that the owners of Classicuts Dog Grooming are brought to justice!
